Sound Matters
Why Audio Makes or Breaks Your Video
You can have a beautiful image, perfect lighting and a stunning location, and still lose your audience in seconds if the sound is bad.
Viewers will forgive a lot visually. They’ll forgive a slightly soft shot or a simple background. What they won’t forgive is audio they have to strain to hear. Muffled dialogue, echoey rooms and distracting background noise all signal “unprofessional” faster than anything else, and people click away.
Great audio starts on set. Software can only fix so much. The best results come from capturing clean sound in the first place:
Mic placement. A microphone close to the speaker beats a better microphone far away, every time.
Location scouting for sound. A quiet room with soft surfaces will often sound better than a gorgeous space with hard walls and a humming fridge.
Controlling the environment. Turning off HVAC systems, closing windows and silencing phones before we roll saves hours in the edit.
Monitoring. We listen through headphones during every shoot, so we catch problems while they can still be fixed.
Music and sound design finish the job. The right track sets the mood, and subtle layers like room tone and transitions make a video feel polished and cohesive.
Next time you watch a video you love, close your eyes for a moment. If it still holds your attention, that’s good audio doing its job.
